Don't Sleep after Suhoor !!

According to medical science sleep after eating is not healthy. This is because the digestive system is still not finished it's task, especially the stomach.

"After eating, the food will be stored in the stomach. Well, when you go to sleep, then the food will turn up again," said Dr.H.Ari Fahrial SpPD-KGEH, MMB, FINASIM, physician Internal Medicine Specialist Consultant Stomach and Digestive diseases, Faculty of medicine-RSCM.

According to Dr. Ari, a condition called esophageal reflux or esophageal reflux, which is the return of food from the stomach into the esophagus (the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach). When this condition occurs, then the food reaches the stomach will just turn back into the esophagus. In addition, of course it carried stomach acid by the food.

As a result, the throat will feel dry, hot, sometimes make people feel nausea, heartburn and vomiting. It will get worse if the person is already suffering from gastric ulcer disease.

But if you feel very sleepy, Dr Ari recommends a healthy way to sleep after suhoor, which is:

   1. Sleep 1-2 hours after eating

   2. Elevate your pillow

   3. Sleep half sitting (not lying) when you're feeling very sleepy

   4. Not eating foods that are difficult to digest
